We help young adults (ages 16-24) in Moore County connect to education, employment, training and support services that can lead to long-term success.
The Objective of the CSBG/STARS Self-Sufficiency Program is to assist low-income, unemployed or under-employed individuals locate employment that will increase their incomes above the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines and move them toward Self-Sufficiency. Case Managers are assigned to program participants and provide an array of services aimed at eliminating barriers and enhancing the family's ability to attain Self-Sufficiency.
Program Components
Include:
Educational Assistance (tuition and/or books)
Certifications, licenses, curriculum and/or continuing education courses in fields that could lead to employment.
Job training, job search assistance, resume writing, interviewing techniques, job placement and work supports such as uniforms, steel toe boots, safety glasses and tools, for example.
Short-term training - includes classes or programs that take anywhere between one day and two years to complete. It can help you qualify for a job, get a promotion or earn more money. Assisting very low-income families, the elderly and the disabled to afford decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private market.
The family is responsible for finding a suitable housing unit, of their choice, where the owner agrees to rent under the program. A housing subsidy is paid directly to the landlord, on behalf of the participating family.
If you own rental property, contact us about renting through the Section 8 Program. Rent subsidy is paid by the 5th of each and every month.

Emergency home repairs and modifications for low-income homeowners with special needs.
Only repairs that address imminent threats to the life and safety of the occupants of the home or accessibility modifications will be performed.
Contractors will perform urgently needed repairs for issues that pose a threat to life or safety. Approximately 10,500.00 in assistance. The amount of funding may not address all of the safety issues within a home.
Examples: roof replacement or repair, ramps, porches, steps, replace or repair damaged floors and floor covering, bathroom modifications for accessibility, etc.

Online Homebuyer Education is available, for the low price of $99. Work through the modules at your own pace, because they are available 24/7. A certificate of completion is available afterward along with follow-up with a HUD certified Housing Counselor.
